Abstract: We conducted a lithological mapping of the Viedma volcano, one of five volcanoes in the Andean Austral Volcanic Zone (AVZ), using remote sensing techniques. We used data of the Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection radiometer (ASTER) sensor which is highly effective in geological research, to understand build-up processes and to deduce compositional variation of the Viedma volcano emerging from the South Patagonian ice field. The volcanic edifice was divided into bright parts that mainly compose the eastern flank of the volcano and dark parts at the central crater area based on the observation in visible and near infrared ranges. The SiO2 concentration was cal-culated using the bands in the visible and thermal infrared regions. The dark part and the bright part have approximately 51 wt% and 63 wt% average SiO2 content respectively, indicating that the exposures of the Viedma volcano have a wide variation in SiO2 concentration. Although, according to other authors, ejecta from the Viedma volcano have 64-66 wt% SiO2 and other AV Z volcanoes are essentially monolithologic dacite/andesite volcanoes, the edifice of the Viedma volcano appears to be composed mostly of basalts or older rocks/basement with low silica contents.

Abstract: This note provides the closed-form solution for the model by Lazear [1]. The employer adjusts the performance standard for promotion when the employer observes only the imperfect index of the employee’s ability. The adjustment margin is larger when the performance depends heavily on luck and depends lightly on the employee’s ability.

Acta Medica Okayama , 2011,
Abstract: The aim of this study was to clarify the prevalence of coronary risk factors in order to characterize the prognostic factors in elderly patients and to also identify any factors beneficial for the prevention of further cardiac events and death. We studied 888 patients with ST-elevation acute myocardial infarction who were admitted within 48h of symptom onset. The patients were divided into 3 groups according to age for comparison of variables:a younger group (n=99) aged<50, a middle-aged group (n=435)>51 years but<70 years and an elderly group (n=354) aged>71 years. The elderly group had higher rates of female gender, pulmonary congestion, in-hospital mortality, and atrial fibrillation and a higher plasma concentration of high-sensitivity CRP (hs-CRP) (p<0.05). Hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and dyslipidemia were more common in the middle-aged group (p<0.05). The prevalence of smokers and the plasma level of total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol and triglycerides were lower in the elderly group (p<0.05). The grade of collateral circulation was highest in the elderly group, but the success rate of reperfusion therapy was lowest. Multiple regression analysis showed that age, pulmonary congestion, CKD and hs-CRP were predictors of in-hospital mortality. This investigation indicated that elderly patients with acute myocardial infarction have different clinical characteristics than younger patients. A specific algorithm might be needed in elderly patients, and could use hs-CRP, eGFR and atrial fibrillation as factors.
Sex Difference of In-hospital Mortality in Patients with Acute Myocardial Infarction

Acta Medica Okayama , 2011,
Abstract: Factors contributing to the sex difference of in-hospital mortality after acute myocardial infarction (MI) are still unknown. We compared the clinical characteristics on admission and in-hospital outcome of consecutive 1,354 patients with acute MI between the 2 sexes. Age on admission was about 7 years older in women than in men. In-hospital death was significantly more frequent in women. Pulmonary congestion and hypertension were more likely in women with higher serum levels of total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol. A higher prevalence of current smoking and inferior wall involvement and lower serum HDL cholesterol level were observed in man. After adjusting for age, adverse in-hospital mortality for women was observed in both younger and older patients. Multivariate logistic regression analysis demonstrated that age, location of infarction, recanalization and serum C-reactive protein (CRP) concentration were independent predictors for in-hospital mortality for overall patients, while age and recanalization were independent predictors for male gender, and pulmonary congestion and serum CRP concentration were independent predictors for female gender. In-hospital outcome after acute MI was worse in women. A multivariate logistic regression model revealed that the sexually different factors affected in-hospital mortality in females.
Algebraic Structure in Non-Orientable Open-Closed String Field Theories

Abstract: We apply stochastic quantization method to real symmetric matrix-vector models for the second quantization of non-orientable strings, including both open and closed strings. The Fokker-Planck hamiltonian deduces a well-defined non-orientable open-closed string field theory at the double scaling limit of the matrix model. There appears a new algebraic structure in the continuum F-P hamiltonian including a Virasoro algebra and a $SO(r)$ current algebra.
The Direction of Research on Active Aging and Healthy Life Expectancy in Japan  [PDF]

Abstract:

In Japan, 18.1% of the population known as baby-boomers will become the late-stage elderly in 2025, thereby needing a foundation to support this change. The Japanese Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare is promoting the development of a regional comprehensive system allowing the elderly to continue living in their familiar surroundings. However, a care shortage is inevitable unless elders are able to age in good health, regardless of the system’s level of enhancement. This study aims to review the literature on active aging, clarify trends in clinical operations undertakings and research in Japan, and consider relevant research issues. After combining the search results of “active aging” and “healthy life expectancy,” we used a text mining technique to analyze the abstracts of 120 original articles and 213 reviews, commentaries, and features. Eight categories were extracted from the original articles: health statistics, gender, age, etc. From the reviews, commentaries, and features, 16 categories were extracted: orientation, disease, and living, etc. Cerebrovascular disease and osteoporosis were the most common diseases covered in the original articles; there has been a substantial amount of research on “active aging” and “healthy life expectancy” because they can easily lead to being bedridden and to a decrease in QOL. In the reviews, commentaries, and features, lifestyle-related diseases and menopause rather than cerebrovascular disease and osteoporosis, were extracted. The categorical differences found in the original articles may be due to the possibility that Japanese researchers are publishing their research abroad rather than in Japan or they submit research on topics that are guaranteed to be published at home or abroad. Little research has been conducted using the terms, “active aging” and “healthy life expectancy,” evidenced by the small number of studies generated. Preparations for 2025 will require an increase in the number of studies from the perspective of “active aging” and “healthy life expectancy.”

Phase structure of NJL model with finite quark mass and QED correction

High Energy Physics - Phenomenology , 2007,
Abstract: We study QED corrections to the chiral symmetry breaking in Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (NJL) model with two flavors of quarks. In the model the isospin symmetry is broken by differences of the current quark masses and the electromagnetic charges between up and down quarks. In the leading order of the 1/N expansion we calculate the effective potential of the model with one-loop QED corrections. Evaluating the effective potential, we study an influence of the isospin symmetry breaking on the orientation of chiral symmetry breaking. The current quark mass has an important contribution for the orientation of chiral symmetry breaking.

Note on a Closed String Field Theory from Bosonic IIB Matrix Model

Physics , 2002, DOI: 10.1088/1126-6708/2003/01/025
Abstract: We apply stochastic quantization method to the bosonic part of IIB matrix model, i.e., a naive zero volume limit of large N Yang-Mills theory, to construct a collective field theory of Wilson loops. The Langevin equation for Wilson loops can be interpreted as the time evolution of closed string fields. The corresponding Fokker-Planck hamiltonian deduces a closed string field theory which describes interacting Wilson loops with manifest Lorentz invariance.
